Three evenings have been dedicated to the launching of the Foundation so that all the rules imposed by the COVID-19 regulations have been respected.
We had the pleasure to welcome SAR Prince Laurent of Belgium and the mayor of Schaerbeek, Mrs Jodogne as well as proeminent figures of the business world.
H&S Foundation aim to bring to a wider audience a private collection of Vietnamese contemporary paintings acquired in the 1990s by Marc Hürner and Antoine Savary. The foundation is located in an elegant 400m2 house in the Schaerbeek neighborhood of Brussels, and comprises a collection of 270 works by 38 artists.
The H&S Foundation recently opened a curated exhibition of prominent works from the collection. The selection establishes a clear perspective on Vietnamese art in the decade that followed the country’s 1986 economic reforms. The period also spearheaded a creative rebirth, whereby artistic freedom was officially encouraged, if not always followed through by the communist authorities. Despite the stumbling blocks, the resulting independence and development of artistic expression moved rapidly forward, and continues to do so to this day.
The permanent collection will rotate periodically in the H&S Foundation galleries, with future curatorial activities and programming that will supplement and continue giving context to the collection. The H&S Foundation aims to increase the visibility of the paintings to a wider audience in central Europe, from seasoned collectors to novices who may not be familiar with Vietnamese contemporary art.
