A taciturn and anxious artist, Nguyen Tan Cuong is born in Hanoi in 1953. He has graduated from the Fine Arts Academy of Saigon in 1973 just little time before the reunification war of his country.
He participates for the first time to the national painting contest in 1985. In 1991, he shows his work in Paris and in 1993 in Singapore. In 1994 it will be Japan with an exhibition in Tokyo and Hong Kong. He will expose several paintings during the Mekong exhibitions of 1995 and 1996 in Switzerland. In 1996, he exposes some of his work in the Fujita Art Museum of Tokyo and he participates to the 11th International Contest of Asia taking place in Manila.
In 1996 and in 2000, he wins the Philips Morris price that recognizes the best artists of the ASEAN countries exposing in Bangkok. Nguyen Tan Cuong is currently working in a very personal and coherent style. He builds a universe made of translucent representations and multifaceted characters. Everyone can find a small piece of itself by looking at this fascinating imaginary world. Nguyen Tan Cuong is a very discreet and anxious person who is naturally expressing himself with his brushes to bring us in his universe. He is often associated with his remarkable friends Nguyen Tan Cuong and Tran Van Thao.
After the H & S contest, his works have been exhibited in Korea, California and Italy (1998), then it will exhibit, in addition to Vietnam, in Brighton in 2000, Canada in 2008 and 2010 in Thailand.
The enigmatic nature of these characters has evolved into complex and broken faces, very much like the artist Do Hoang Tuong.
