Nguyen Thanh Son is born in Pleiku in 1959. He has obtained his diploma at the Fine Arts Academy of Hue. He has exposed his work many times in Japan and of course also in Saigon and Hanoi.
Nguyen Than Son has a very “primitive” approach of human interactions and his style can remind to some of us certain representations of man in the African art. This artist has a vast repertoire in which he works with the same intensity following his inspiration.
The painting “Kiss of the Totem” is a balanced representation of the relation between man and woman, relation of dominant dominated linked to a complementarity that confirms this equilibrium. One has to note that his capacity to represent people on a universal mode is rather remarkable.
After 1997, he will continue his work but the subjects are increasingly tormented and sad.
